Inspired Artist
The artist that I picked was Maryam Ashkanian. She embroiders portraits of "peaceful sleepers deeply resting" onto pillows. she starts with a line drawing and then embroiders it onto a handmade pillow, she makes a personality for each portrait by adding a ruffle or colored flowers. Shes won awards every year from 2009-2017. Her website link is www.maryamashkanianstudio.com/ . Their work is really interesting to me because you normally never see anyone embroidering pillows especially the way she does and how she makes every one have its own personality. They also look kind of realistic like its very proportionate.

Final:

1. For this project you had to make coils and for each coil you had to scratch and slip bothe the piece and the coil to make sure that its stays.
2. My biggest difficulty for this project was probably my nails. It was so difficult because i kept accidentally hitting my piece and it would make a mark. 3. |
Tripod Cup
Final Tripod Cup:
ibeginning of the project we started by doing a sketch to plan out what we wanted our piece to look like and all of the colors and the texture that we wanted to put with it. We then took a slab of clay and started to fold and shape our piece and then we smoothed and carved our design and put our texture on it. After that we fired them in the kiln and painted them!!
2. I think that the legs and colors that i chose turned out to be way more successful than i though. if i could do this project again i would probably try harder to make it more smooth and less lopsided then it turned out to be.
3. A clay slab is where you take a good size chunk of clay and basically flatten it out making it evenly thin and flat

Paper mache
|
|
1. The paper mache proccess begins with just ripping up papers and making your water and flour paste. You then wet the paper in your paste and place it over any of the objects that you decided to make your shape with. Then after its dried you add about two mor layers then add your final layer with the paper towels and after that is dried you sand it down and paint and finish decorating.
2. My piece was successful because I just learned how to do paper mache and i think it didnt turn out too bad.
3. Overall the paper mache was pretty difficult especially trying to get the shape right and smoothing it out and figuring otu all of the colors you need.

Final exam:
Required questions:
1. This semester in sculpture 1 i learned how to use certain tools and different techniques. Using tools has helped me immensely throughout all of my projects. For example my pineapple tray set, for this i used a ribbon tool to make the leaves have detail and the brown spikes, and for the lines i used the ribbon tool. Using tools instead of your hands help make things look more realistic in the final result and they end up looking way neater.
2. Since the beginning of the semester i feel like my understanding for tools has changed, i learned newer easier ways to make things look more clean and put together. Each tool does something different, after learning about every tool give me the materials that i need to know for future projects that i get to work on.

4. A project where the choices i made regarding the size, material, technique, etc. helped enhance my project would probably be my tripod cup project. I feel like the drip effect i did was really cool and how i made it pop out also the rainbow effect that i had done.
7. Despite from what i learned in this class, the project that i found most difficult was the installation. For this project we bought a yoga ball and paper mached it but forgot one of the more important steps which was saran wrapping the outside so it didnt stick to the ball. After that we ran into some trouble trying to find and put a hook into the paper mache without popping the ball.. well that didn't work because shortly after the ball popped and started to deflate along with the paper mache because it was stuck to the ball. Long story short it was a mess but i think that in the end it cleaned up nicely.
12. my least favorite material to work with is paper mache. This is because it is extremely messy and if left out wet it can smell really easily and mold.
